Things to Consider Before Going to Cancun

Cancun

Cancun

So you’ve decided to take that trip to Cancun that you’ve always dreamed about. Congratulations…for you are about to embark on a journey of a lifetime…Friends will be make, Life-long memories experienced and of course, PARTY!!!!!

But slow down cow-poke. Don’t shoot your load yet because there’s a lot of things you gotta consider.

Best Travel Times and Price

Not everyone here is a college student going to Cancun during Spring Break…well most people are but we have many diverse readers who have different schedules. Regardless, be sure to look around for the best time and price for you.

The hurricane season begins in September, so opt for a cancellation insurance when booking flights during this period. You can also consider scheduling your vacation during off-peak winter months, since airfares and hotel rates are drastically less. Check for midweek bargains (between Tuesday and Thursday). Shop around for vacation  packages and discount airfare. Make sure you tell your travel agent about your budget and what attractions and experiences are very important for you. If you do not work with a travel agent, keep your eyes on the big online travel sites such as STA Travel, Travelocity, Expedia, and Cheapoair.

Don’t except to find coupon codes for your flight. The airline industry is cut-throat and their profit margins are small enough.

Surrounding Attractions

What to do once there?

Cancun has tons of attractions for everyone. Plans for day trips and go early, before the sun gets too hot and the crowds become massive.

Here are some popular attractions in the area you will want to consider:

  • Chichen Itza: Ancient Maya archaeological structures
  • Maya Venture: A maze with a treasure hunt
  • Plaza de Toros: A bullring that bullfights every Wednesday noon
Cenotes: Deep, surface water filled limestone
  • Isla Mujeres: A small and charming island 8 miles on the baby of Cancun
  • Playa del Carmen: Small resort town about 40 minutes south of Cancun by car
  • Xcaret EcoPark and Sian Kaan biosphere along the Riviera Maya
  • Xel Ha: Archeological site and ecopark located between Playa del Carmen and Tulum.
  • Tulum: Best known for its Mayan ruins. Tulum is also the starting point for many eco-tourism and adventure travel.

    Other Considerations

If your primary goal is to go to Cancun on the cheap, the best advice is to find accommodations in the hotel zone, which is located in the center of the city. There are plenty of things to do and many great places to visit. However hotel and restaurant prices become pretty steep downtown.

    What to Bring

    • Clothing: Several pairs of comfortable shorts, T-shirts, dress slacks, a sundress, sweater or light jacket, socks, underwear, sandals, tennis shoes, plastic bag for dirty clothes
First Aid: Pain reliever fresh, eyedrops, and necessary medication, band aids, neck pillow
    • protection: sunglasses, glasses and / or contact lens, Sunvisor or baseball cap, umbrella or rain poncho
    • Snacks: Peanuts, crackers or chips, chewing gum, candy and a bottle of water
    • Equipment: Camera, extra film, batteries, portable CD player with headphones, favorite book
    • Documentation: Valid passport, driving license and birth certificate, emergency contact information, money and travelers checks, computer printout of airline tickets confirmation. (Make sure to write the name of your destination hotel inside and outside of the luggage and ensure an adequate lock on each bag.)

    Conclusion

Holidays in Cancun are not expensive because it does not cost much at all to lounge on the beach, swim, backpack, picnic, take photos, walk along the beaches and streets, and just sit still and enjoy the sights and sounds of city and surf.
